Our Fintech Evaluation Methodology
To provide trustworthy recommendations, a transparent and rigorous evaluation framework is essential. At Bali Fintech Hub, we don’t just report on the fintech landscape; we conduct hands-on, systematic reviews of the platforms and services shaping the industry. Our methodology is designed to be objective, comprehensive, and relevant to the specific needs of users in Indonesia, from local SMEs to international digital nomads. This process is executed by our expert team of analysts.
The Bali Fintech Hub Scoring Framework
Each fintech product—be it a digital bank, payment gateway, or crypto exchange—is assessed against a proprietary scoring rubric. While the specific weightings may be adjusted for the product category, the core criteria remain consistent:
1. Regulatory Compliance & Security (40% Weight)
This is our most important criterion. A service that is not compliant or secure is not worth using, no matter how convenient.
- Licensing & Registration: Is the entity officially licensed and supervised by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) or Bank Indonesia (BI)? We verify their registration number against official databases. For crypto, we check for BAPPEBTI registration.
- Data Security: Does the platform adhere to Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection (PDP) Law? We assess their privacy policy, data encryption standards, and any security certifications (e.g., ISO 27001, PCI DSS).
- Sandbox Status: If the company is new, is it currently participating in the OJK Regulatory Sandbox? This indicates a formal path toward compliance.
2. Features & Functionality (25% Weight)
We evaluate the product’s core offering and how well it solves a genuine problem for its target users.
- Core Service Quality: How fast are transactions? How reliable is the platform? For a payment gateway, what are the success rates? For a digital bank, what are the interest rates and account features?
- Onboarding Process: How easy is it for a user (local or foreign) to open an account and complete the e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) process?
- Integration & Compatibility: Does the service integrate well with other platforms (e.g., e-commerce platforms, accounting software)? Does it fully support the QRIS standard?
3. Pricing & Transparency (20% Weight)
Value for money is key. We dig deep into the fee structures to identify any hidden costs.
- Fee Structure: Are the fees for transactions, transfers, and account maintenance clear, competitive, and easy to understand?
- FX Rates: For services involving foreign currency, how do their exchange rates compare to the mid-market rate from Bank Indonesia?
- Transparency: Is the pricing information readily available on their website, or is it hidden in complex terms and conditions?
4. Customer Support & User Experience (15% Weight)
A great product can be let down by poor support. We test the responsiveness and effectiveness of customer service channels.
- Support Channels: What support options are available (live chat, phone, email)? Are they available 24/7? Is support offered in English and Bahasa Indonesia?
- Responsiveness & Quality: We conduct anonymous tests to measure response times and the quality of the assistance provided.
- User Interface (UI/UX): Is the app or web platform intuitive, stable, and easy to navigate?
By applying this consistent methodology across all our reviews, we provide a reliable and comparable basis for you to make informed decisions about the best fintech solutions for your needs in Indonesia.
